“Ready Made” vs. “Custom” Reading Glasses
It can be tempting to reach for the inexpensive readers at your local drugstore, but before you stock up on the pre-fab version consider purchasing custom-made readers—there are more than a few benefits, including:
- Better fit: Pre-made reading glasses are “one-size-fits-all” which as we all know often means “one-size-fits-few”
- More accurate: Most people don’t have the exact same prescription for both eyes, but pre-made readers have the same prescription in both lenses
- Added features: Do you need an anti-reflective coating to eliminate lens reflections? UV or blue light protection? Progressive, bifocal, or other special lenses? Custom readers are the way to go.
Screen Time
It’s 2019, which means you are probably logging in more screen time than you were five or ten years ago. Reading glasses don’t always mesh well with computer screens, and don’t protect your eyes from high-energy visible blue light which is damaging to eyes over time.
If you log many hours a day in front of a computer screen, it’s a good idea to invest in eyeglasses that both help you see better and offer protection.
