Shopping for Sunglasses

We can’t think of a better way to stay healthy and look cool doing it than wearing a great pair of sunglasses. A fun accessory also provides important protection for your eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Why not spend a little more on a pair of fabulous sunglasses? It’s an excellent investment in your eye health and your wardrobe. Here are a few tips to help you choose the right pair for you.

UVA & UVB Protection

Look for an indication that the lenses you choose block 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays. Exposure to UV rays can cause a host of serious eye problems, including cataracts and macular degeneration. Sunglasses also protect the delicate skin around your eyes from UV rays as well. Remember, the darkness of the lenses does not indicate more or better protection—look for that UV label!

Lens Coverage

It’s pretty simple–the bigger the sunglass lenses, the more coverage, and protection from the sun. Fit is another crucial factor, especially if you’re an outdoor athlete looking for protective eyewear. Wraparound styles are popular with outdoor athletes because of their excellent fit, and ability to keep out sand and other potential irritants. If you are going to be on the water and want to cut down glare, ask about polarized lenses.
