Glasses Make a Comeback During COVID-19

As we all begin to navigate a “new normal” in this COVID-19 world, it’s important to learn new, healthy habits to keep ourselves safe. We all know that social distancing and proper use/wearing of masks are important in preventing the spread of the disease, but it’s also important we all reduce touching our faces to slow the spread of COVID-19 from contact with contaminated surfaces.

CDC Recommendations

The most current CDC COVID-19 guidance states that it “may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes” and recommends washing hands often with soap and water, as well as routinely cleaning frequently-touched surfaces.

So, what does this have to do with your glasses?

As long as you keep your glasses (frames and lenses, please!) clean, and wash your hands frequently, your eyeglasses may actually offer you additional protection. When you opt for eyeglasses over contact lenses, you are reducing direct contact with your eye and sporting an extra barrier to dust, allergens, and other unwanted elements.

Work from Home Reality

Many people are finding their screen time increased during COVID-19. Opting for lenses with blue light protection can help you reduce headaches, eye strain, and even problems sleeping. Every little bit helps!

Opticians Clean Your Glasses

Clean, Clean, Clean

Get in the habit of cleaning your glasses daily—and make sure you wash your own hands first. Keep cleaning cloths in a few handy places to make sure you repeat throughout the day: your bathroom sink, your home office desk, next to your favorite spot on the couch.
